Your ‘express lane’ to start working in the fitness industry, IFI’s Fitness Coach Program combines the science of strength and conditioning with IFI’s Personal Training specific industry skills modules. This course will give you the skills to train athletes and even manage your own fitness business.
Included in this course is the opportunity to train real clients during your studies. We also provide an online learner support system where you can easily get in touch with experts and colleagues to assist you throughout your studies. This course is practical, flexible, user-friendly and guaranteed to give you the skills that you need.


We pride ourselves on providing a flexible delivery model that combines online theory with practical application. There are three specific areas to be completed when taking part in the Fitness Coach course.

Level 1 Strength & Conditioning Coach Course

Offered in partnership with Sportecoach Pty Ltd, the Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach course will allow you to design, implement and review conditioning programs to improve speed, strength, endurance, and flexibility. It is a highly regarded certification to hold if you wish to work in the fitness industry.

IFI’s Industry Skills Modules

We provide our very own internally developed industry skills modules that are designed to reflect the needs and requirements of the fitness industry today. We always ensure that our modules are up to date according to current industry standards. These modules include:

Personal Trainer and Client Training in a Park

  • Applied anatomy & physiology – Learn about how the human body works and gain an understanding of how exercise influences the systems of the body.
  • Design, implement and review conditioning programs to improve speed, strength, endurance & flexibility
  • Nutrition principles for body composition goals – Gain an in-depth knowledge of nutrition principles so you can offer valuable advice to assist clients with their health and fitness goals.
  • Client screening & assessment principles – Gain valuable skills in pre-exercise screening & assessing a range of physical capacities that will allow you to prescribe specific, individualised exercise interventions.
  • Exercise programming strategies – Learn how to prescribe best-practice exercise interventions to suit specific client needs and fitness goals.
  • Fitness business principles – Gain practical knowledge and skills on the management of a fitness business as a sole trader,

Beginner Boxing Program for 1 on 1 and Group Fitness

This 3-hour practical workshop provides you with valuable skills and knowledge to incorporate boxing specific drills with your clients. Importantly, this certification ensures that you have insurance coverage when delivering these activities with your clients.


After completing the Fitness Coach course, you will feel confident knowing you have all of the skills and knowledge to succeed, and the certifications to back it up!

Level 1 Strength & Conditioning Certification

Upon completion, you will receive the Level 1 of the Strength and Conditioning Certification from the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA). This certification is highly regarded in the fitness, strength & conditioning industries.

Beginner Boxing Certification

The Beginner Boxing certification that you will receive is worth 5 continuing education credits (CEC’s) with Fitness Australia. This certification allows you to be covered by insurance when boxing is incorporated into your training sessions.

Gym Instructor

The primary role of a gym instructor is to coach a range of exercises and routines. This includes observing clients performing exercises and assisting them with correct techniques to improve fitness and prevent injury. The Gym Instructor ensures that exercise programs are specific & individualised to suit the needs of each client. Another important aspect of the role is performing pre-exercise screens & assessing physical capacities to ascertain improvement & inform exercise prescription. Gym instructors play an important role in educating clients & influencing positive change. This role is all about leading, instructing and motivating.

Strength & Conditioning Coach

While a strength and conditioning coach does work to improve the fitness of their clients, this role differs from Gym Instructors & Personal Trainers. Clients who see strength and conditioning coaches are focused on sport-specific performance enhancement, which means that athletes primarily take advantage of these services. As a strength and conditioning coach, you would be a vital member of a physical performance team, to ensuring that athletes are in top condition to excel in their sporting field. Employment opportunities are available in schools, multidisciplinary clinics and with sporting organisations.

Personal Trainer (PT)

A personal trainer provides fitness training services as one-on-one or small group sessions. A wide variety of clients take advantage of a PT’s services. A personal trainer helps their clients to achieve these goals by developing specific exercise solutions & ensuring success through motivation and education.
